Kyocera KJ4B: cleaning and retesting
This Kyocera KJ4B two-color, dual-row printhead reached Mocai Digital after the customer’s surface cleaning had failed to restore normal printing. The problem was affecting production and order fulfillment.
We used Mocai’s fourth-generation cleaning machine with manual treatment, followed by test-machine verification. The customer later reported stable output after reinstallation.

Original test records
Before and after KJ4B printhead cleaning
The supplied test records show incomplete color bands and missing or faint line segments before cleaning. The records after cleaning show more continuous bands and more complete lines.
Select any image to inspect the original test pattern. The images are presented by cleaning stage.
Before cleaning
Visible gaps and incomplete test lines.
After cleaning
More continuous color bands and more complete test lines.
The test images document visible changes after cleaning. They do not establish a numerical nozzle recovery rate or a guarantee of complete recovery.
Initial symptoms and inspection
The customer had already tried cleaning the printhead surface, but printing problems remained. Before proceeding with further treatment, Mocai Digital tested the head to assess its current printing condition and whether cleaning was appropriate.
In this case, the workshop assessment supported attempting cleaning. The supplied pre-cleaning patterns provided a visual record of the printing defects before treatment.
For a head with missing lines or uneven output, the next step depends on the inspection findings. Our industrial printhead cleaning service and printhead repair service pages explain the two service areas.
Equipment and treatment
Cleaning with Mocai’s fourth-generation system

For this KJ4B printhead, we used a cleaning approach that did not require dismantling the head. Mocai’s fourth-generation cleaning machine was used together with cleaning fluid and manual treatment.
- Record the initial printing conditionTest the printhead before treatment and retain the patterns for review.
- Apply cleaning fluidUse cleaning fluid to soften ink deposits within the ink path.
- Carry out cleaning and manual treatmentWork on the affected ink paths without prying the head apart or using forceful high-pressure flushing.
- Retest nozzle performanceCheck ink output, test-line continuity and jet direction after treatment.
For information about the cleaning fluids offered by Mocai Digital, visit our printhead cleaning solutions page. Ask about suitability for your printhead and ink before selecting a fluid.
Post-cleaning testing and results
After cleaning, the printhead was placed on a test machine for continuous-printing checks. The workshop reported that previously blocked channels resumed ink output, interruptions in the test lines were reduced, jet direction improved and the two colors printed more evenly.
The original test images above document the visible change in band continuity and line completeness. Workshop testing also checked how the head behaved while printing continued.
- Ink output: previously blocked channels resumed printing.
- Test-line continuity: interruptions were noticeably reduced.
- Jet direction: the workshop reported improvement after treatment.
- Two-color output: the workshop reported more even printing.
These results describe this cleaning case. They are not a claim that every nozzle recovered or that every KJ4B printhead will respond in the same way.

Customer-reported result
Stable output after reinstallation
After the printhead was reinstalled, the customer reported stable output, no recurring blockage at the time of their feedback, and a return to normal order production.
This feedback describes performance on the customer’s printer following the workshop cleaning and testing.
Questions about KJ4B printhead cleaning
Can cleaning help a KJ4B printhead with missing lines?
In this case, printing improved after cleaning. A similar-looking test pattern does not establish that another head has the same underlying problem. Send the model information, recent test patterns and cleaning history so we can review its condition.
Was this printhead dismantled during cleaning?
No. This case used cleaning fluid, Mocai’s fourth-generation cleaning machine and manual treatment without dismantling the printhead.
Does this case show complete nozzle recovery?
The records show improved printing, and the customer reported a return to normal production. No numerical nozzle recovery rate is stated for this case.
